  • The details and situations encountered during the process of creating a single book far exceeded my expectations. To begin, the first steps include conceptualizing an idea, then developing and structuring it's contents. At times, the distance between the initial idea and its realization can be unsettling and demands constant communication and understanding with those involved. The production of a book is a collaboration of many fields and professions. Like a domino effect, complications between the work and the artist exist between the artist and the designer, the artist and the curator, and consequently, it extends out to the relationship with the producer. Thus, the making of a book is both an independent and highly collaborative act.

In this special issue titled, Bound Together, we enter the world of eight different artists and their works in eight individual books. In each book, IANN approaches the artists and also the hidden contributors – the designer, curator, editor, producer, etc – highlighting them as well. Especially, guest editor of this issue, Jason Fulford, who worked dedicatedly on the artist introductions, image selections, even taking part in the interviews, I extend my sincere gratitude. Jason had arrived in Seoul with heavy travel bags filled with books to show us, and eagerly, we envisioned together the works that would soon be released through this issue. In a few months from now, we will all see this book in person.
