This issue of IANN focuses on looking at a photograph not as a representation of reality
but considering photograph¡¯s materiality – as object¡¯s in their own right.
In the current issue entitled Beyond the Silent Paper, IANN examines the works of Thomas Demand,
Melanie Willhide, Walead Beshty, KDK (Kim Dokyun), Taisuke Koyama, and Masayuki Shioda.
Thomas Demand, known for his paper models, constructs photographs using models that almost
identically resemble real life.
Special Feature presents the work of Lorna Macintyre. Macintyre is often inspired by mythological figures or literature and she combines photographs, installation figures in her work. Photographs are presented as objects or photogram alongside installation to produce a new method of presenting a photograph that plays into a 3-dimensional form.
Work in Progress illustrates the work of a Finnish artist, Anni Leepala. Her work embodies powerful emotions and memories while they appear as paused stills like a scene from a film.
